Today is a good day...

I have managed to add well over 4K words to a document regarding my latest WIP (Work In Progress), 999 of which are the opening scene. I feel like I have accomplished a fantastic thing. The other words are plot points I want to cover, some thoughts of the main character, and even some ideas for a cliffhanger ending.
I am looking forward to my Wellness the Wright Way class tonight. Pat says he has researched some information for us to help us create a fitness routine right for us. I am finding myself more relaxed and even peaceful at times. Eventually this too shall pass, right? I have children after all.

Bad Days - I has 'em

Obviously. Everyone seems to have them. It's okay. Maybe I could take inspiration from those days that seem to drag forever, or I feel bitter towards every chirpy happy face I see. I could use these inspirations to work on the story I've been holding on the back burner too long, or start a new one. The new story could inspire me to work on that back burner story. OR I could get inspired to write an article for the local paper for a change. (I hear there's money in that too!)
Somedays it just doesn't pay to chew through the leather straps, but then again, I could take the time to turn those bad days into positive moments. Eventually my day did turn out better, and of course, this involved my great children.
Girl, who is a teenager, made me laugh so hard I nearly puked, really. She has such a great sense of humor, and her laugh is infectious. She just makes my day in little ways, and I have been realizing she needs to hear that more often. Girl learned new vocab in Spanish class and was so eager to study it (WTH???) that I had to take her back to the school to get her notebook.
Little Man, who is not even 10, has a brain the size of Jupiter, and the imagination to go with it. Sometimes I wonder where his ideas come from (left field, anyone?) He has to do a dress-up speech on a person of interest. His person is Jim Henson. Can you imagine how thrilled I was? I mean, Dude created Yoda! And his Dark Crystal and Labryrinth work! Wow. So, Little Man wrote his speech and practiced it, and then Mom nearly dropped the ball. I spaced out the costume part. Time to race to Masie's house (she is a grocery store, cafe, and costume supply store all in one). After I arrive, I realized I had crocheted a beard and mustache thing for a beanie. Duh Mom. His speech is today, and I am eager to hear how he thinks he did.
See, bad day turned great, and I was inspired to actually add to the blog. YAY!!

So it's Leap Day....

big deal. This is the day my friend would have turned 10, but he died last year at the physical age of 38. A family friend died earlier this week, and I get to go to her memorial service Friday. My niece is struggling for her life in Florida. All this gets me to thinking crazy crap.

However, I'm in the mood for a scavenger hunt, or a treasure hunt with clues and everything. I need a little fun, and something that makes me think think think about anything but death and pain.

So, if anyone is reading this, drop me a comment and let me know if you want to do a scavenger hunt or treasure hunt thingamajig.

My Boy

So, last night I dragged my 9 year old son to another girls-only thing because my 15 year old daughter and I need to be girly together. Go figure. I know my son is going to either need tons of therapy or his mom's gay best friend to counsel him after dealing with not only his mother and sister, but his grandmother and ALL of the sorority sisters for the last year (and many to come). Now my boy is a hugger, just a little snuggle bunny. And I've enjoyed seeing how he makes my friends' eyes light up with his need to squeeze. And he is a helper by nature. So of course, anything that needed to be done last night he volunteered to help with.
I am so glad I raised my son this way, but it was hard for me to see the hostess's daughter want to be a hostess and do what needed to be done as my son just proceeded to help the daughter out of hostess duties. I asked my son to sit and let the little girl do her thing, and he did. For about 2 minutes. He couldn't stop himself. He just HAD to help.
Thank goodness another gal had brought her daughters with her, who are closer to the little wanna-be hostess girl's age. So they eyeballed the jewelry, and my son decided I needed this piece, and that piece, and that one looks like a Masie (grandma for those not in the know) piece, and this one looked cool too.
Wow, talk about raising a consumer! Thankfully, I was able to rein the daughter in to pick two pieces she liked, and I found one I liked, and of course one of her pieces I liked too. Poor kid has to share that one with me.
And while all that decision making on pieces was going on, my son discovered an AT-AT (Star Wars ORIGINAL trilogy, tyvm!) made of Legos! And from that moment, the hostess who had put the AT-AT together herself, was his newest hero (and mine too, because I am a Nerd). That thing moved! And she had also made a Tie-fighter (looked like Vader's too).
So my son got the best of both worlds, Nerd-dom and pretty jewelry for Mom and Sissy Monster to drool over. Man, am I a lucky mama or what?

Recently

Recently I found a few others who are interested in writing, so I have sort of put together a writing group here in this small town. I think it will go well, although it has morphed into two separate groups with one for adults and one for teenagers (although my younger son is in it and doing well).
My daughter has been fighting off some serious illnesses, and has finally caught up with her healthy self.
I was given a new title at GearUp. I am now an academic coach rather than a tutor.
I am enjoying my life, although the hectic could slow down just a tad.
I turned 40 last month and feel GREAT! Losing weight and keeping up with my schedule! Woohoo!
So, yeah, just supplying an update, for now!
